Very warm and quite waterproof. The leather protects from wood and metal quite well. Being mittens, they are cumbersome and reduce dexterity to a large degree. But they are durable and easy to don and doff. I use these for long periods of ice chipping, snow shoveling, snowboarding, and a variety of other activities in below freezing and below zero conditions. I've gotten the outside mitts soaked many dozens of times and had the outer mittens freeze, but my hands still stay dry and warm.For me, these tend to be overkill in windless temps over 20 degrees f. After three months of full time use, the leather has some pits and flakes torn up, and a bit of discoloration from getting wet, freezing, thawing, and getting dried out. Also snapped one of the wrist straps off, but stitched it back on and have had no further issue. Warmest mitten I have ever owned.Needed to turn in a set of these and they matchedAgain with the option that don’t exist WTH
