Outdoor Research is a great company with great products. Unfortunately this one just didn't fit me right and I had to return it.soft, unstructured, warm cap, ear flaps keep a warm pocket of air around your ears without muffling sound much. Goes with many looks. One negative that jumped out at me is that the sewn in logo keeps the cap from folding/rolling in the same way as the logo free side. One logo away from 5 stars. Can brands be a little more subtle with their logos please. OR doesn't have the cache of Kangol or even Nike so I wear it because it is a fine hat by design and fabric choice. So when people say "nice hat" I can't say "I love it, it is from Outdoor Research! would you believe it?" Now I say "Thanks! I like it except the logo rolls kinda funky" (cue the WAH, Wah, waaahhh. debbie downer music). You can see in their pic how the stiffness of the logo bends differently than the rest of the fabric of the hat.I picked this up to wear this fall/winter. I was looking for a pub cap in black, but wanted to try a different manufacture than the brown one that I have, and I wanted to see if I could find one that was higher quality than what Ive seen in the large department stores.This hat does not disappoint. It is heavy duty corduroy fabric, and promises to be quite warm. The size is slightly larger than I would have expected it to be, but not too large to wear. The color is not quite solid black, but more of a slightly charcoal color. This is fine with me, just be aware if you are looking for something smooth and black this is not it.The ear flaps tuck up into the hat and fold down enough to cover my ears. I will have to wait to see how effective they are on a windy day. I dont expect them to be knit cap warm, but they should keep off the chill during a casual outing.My hat finally arrived today and I am very pleased with my purchase and the quality of the hat. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and customer service was very prompt. My only suggestion is for Amazon not to send out requests for reviews of products that have not been received.I love this hat. I have a big head (literally) and I find it hard to get hats that aren't tight. The L/XL version is actually loose on my head! A pleasant surprise.I live in Vermont, and winds can get a little cold, thus I was looking for a hat with ear-flaps. These work fine. But, like the hat, they are not snug. They do a decent job of blocking the wind, but if you're expecting nice warm snugly flaps, look for a good took. They are also loud. Made of nylon I would say. Doesn't bother me too much, but having them lined with fleece or something would have made them perfect.If I were to lose this hat, I would certainly but another.This is a great hat, It's all made of a knit material and the visor is formed with a foam like material sewn into the hat.There are no stiff pieces that cause pressure points. Most others I have cause headaches over time, or a line on the forehead.I wear a 7 3/4" in many hats and the L/XL Fits great not tight not loose. But the hat is real flexible so should fit many.Earflaps are thin, but should block wind decently. Probably not going to be my sub zero hat - but should work well.I have other hats with thicker ear flaps and they get too hot in mild weatherI think it will be one of my favoritesMy second one, since I wanted a brown one as well as dark gray.Looks good, feels good, and protects my head from cold and sunrays.
