Not as warm has I believed. Rest OKOn amazon it looks like something that your Great-Uncle Goober got issued during the Korean War.Actually, this item seems surprisingly luxurious and perhaps maybe even a bit technical, in a stealthy kind of way!!.I hate logos on stuff; but the Pertex material (shell) logo is tastefully located around the back in screen printed, futuristic silver.Pertex is great stuff- I havent had anything made of this for years, but it has always been a solid performer for me. Pertex is super thin and light, but does its job while having amazing resistance to abuse!I bought this hat because it 'had the power of Pertex'.One handed tightening of the draw-cord is easy, and should prevent this item blowing away in a squall. There is a magnetic retainer that keeps the peak in the up position. That seems a bit overkill until you realize........ With the peak down you can only see from about 20 degrees down from horizontal!! Just above the end of your nose. Good for going into driving snow and hail or avoiding eye contact, not so good for seeing that oncoming train.Face mask in the side pocket seems usable (guess it will work for token covid sneeze-guard too--Bonus!)Ear covers stow on top using the velcro. Hat works donning, doffing and storing with ears in stow mode.Ready to put my own snaps on the ear covers if these crap out (like more than a few reviews mention)!!!Velcro seems solid at this time.Hat is very light weight and gets rave insulation reviews from people who live in way, WAY colder climes than I.The faux-fur lining is very soft, smooth and dare I say, slightly silky.I waited till the summer to strike on buying this, when it was 40% cheaper= Major steal.Great hat for the price- I think I am going to have fun with this one. I feel as though it will be the go-to hat to grab (sorry wool jeep cap) when I go out this winter.CHP.S.....And it fits my giant square head. No hats ever fit me because the 95% percentile is too small for my cranium. I got the XL and it fits like it should.Rare!Perfect for extreme weather! The neck part is too high but other than that this is great. There's even a zipper pocket to put the face cover in. If you're going out too long I don't know about this because of the neck. You'll need other stuff. My head is 21+" and L is perfect.I love this hat and I hate this hat.Right out of the package, I initially thought it looked flimsy and cheap...not the warm winter hat of my dreams. It looked a little dorky, too, but honestly, most hats do.After I got over my initial reaction and started wearing it, my opinion immediately changed. I've lived in Chicago for 12 years and this is by far the coldest winter I've had here. That said, I can't understand how ANYONE could find this hat NOT warm enough. With ambient temps hovering near -20 and wind chills kissing -40, this hat did the trick. I tried on a couple of thicker, warmer trapper hats while shopping and honestly, they were TOO warm. Practical only if you're working outside for hours on end in sub-zero temps. Another great feature of this hat is the built-in face mask. While other people wrangle a scarf AND hat, I've got one self-contained tool that functions as both. Good stuff. So why do I hate this hat? Because the velcro closures that hold the chin strap are junk. As others have noted, after a handful of uses, the velcro no longer sticks and the chin straps no longer stay fastened. The only reason this hasn't driven my COMPLETELY crazy is because it's been so cold here this winter than I've used the face mask nearly every day, and the velcro on that seems to be holding up better. I've called OR about this and even considered returning the hat, but in the end decided to hold onto it because all other features are great. Once the weather warms up a little and I know I won't need the hat for a few days, I'm going to take it to the tailor to have a better piece of velcro installed. On a $50 hat, this should NOT be necessary. Whomever is in charge of testing designs over at OR was asleep at the switch the day this got approved.Great hat, poor attention to design details by the team at OR.Pros-warm without being hot (important for anyone like me who takes public transit and is in and out of cold conditions)-comfortable-folds small-face mask built in-visor to keep snow out of your eyesCons-not the MOST stylish option-velcro closures are absolute junk and WILL need to be replaced by anyone who intends to keep this hatI bought this hat for cold conditions particularly for its little fold-down cap and for the mouth/nose cover. The colour not really red, its more a burnt faded red colour, which does go with quite a few other colours. The inner black furry lining is lovely and soft. Its fairly waterproof. In practice, the cap bit isn't that handy, its quite small and doesn't keep the sun off.The mouth/nose cover that is in the side zipper of the neck flap, gets wet quite quickly from humidity from your breath or running nose, but its easy to quickly rinse and dry this bit between use without getting the rest of the hat wet, so that's handy. When you put it across your nose/mouth, often you won't be able to line it up straight and its possible to get some crazy angles out of it, so if someone is going to take a photo of you, check its straight or un-velcro it and tuck it away first. To put it on, you have to pull it quite hard across your face to reach the velcro, its a little bit tight. The velcro to hold the neck flaps under your neck and to hold the mouse/nose cover can get stuck on other bits of your clothing, and they won't stick as firmy after several weeks of continuous use.The main thing I didn't love about this hat was that its very rounded on top which doesn't suit my face shape, that's just a personal thing. This is a good hat with good features.Muy versatil y en clima frío se desempeña correctamente.Se adapta a distintas configuraciones con o sin orejeras con o sin mascarilla.El tema del velcro en la barbilla puede ser incomodo con chamarras de cuello alto pero nada que no se pueda solucionar acomodando el mismo velcro correctamenteWhen you wear this you don't feel any air movement around your head. Its like a personal face bubble, I love it! Not very stylish when it's only half done up but I've never been disappointed with Outdoor Research for cold protection!Perfekte Mütze für kaltes Wetter... Allerdings sind die Ohren nicht bedeckt, wenn man den Kinnschutz nicht schließt - da könnte ein wenig mehr Stoff sein...Medida exacta y buena calidadImpeccableA tester en conditions mais je ne suis pas inquietsBien faire attention à la façon dont le cache visage est rangé
