Like really big compare to the indoor gen 2 sensors. But, size isn’t everything is it? I hope not.But they work, I have waited a bit to submit this to see if performed overtime. I used to have an aqara zigbee sensor under the gate. Honestly it worked but would fall off every now and then. Since it was under the fence it had much more wide appeal than this thing.I can’t over state how much bigger this thing is than I expected. I installed it on the back of the gate fully exposed to the elements. This thing has been a trooper and not failed once through winter in the PNW and now into Summer (well less rainy weather).I connected this directly in Home Assistant using Zwavejs2mqtt (not connected to Ring Hub at all). I use it just like any other zwave connected sensor on Home Assistant. It’s responsive and I haven’t had any issues triggering notifications when the gate is opened/closed or left open.Even though it’s not as hidden as the aqara contact sensor. I much rather this ginormous (design principles taking from the square 80s) sensor from Ring.PS - I actually have no idea how it actually performs with the ring hub though ;)Works perfect for the placement no issues with wifiLike almost all Ring products easy to install and reliablewhen someone opens garage door. they set off the alarm and record the eventDing ding I always know.my fence and drill and screw in to metal frame. It work greatI have these on a shed door that's not exactly lined up very well, I was surprised at how well this works. This is huge which is fine for an outside sensor but it keeps sliding off the base just slightly every time I open the gate which is causing a tampered error. I don’t know if this is because it’s so large or a design flaw but it’s definitely frustrating and I get tired of fixing it. I have all things Ring and love their products but I wouldn’t buy this product again.Update: First, I am so blown away by the customer service offered by Amazon/Ring, I am very busy and missed several attempts to connect with them, but they kept trying. They are working on a solution and helped me with one of my other devices. Keep up the excellent customer service! I will post again if the issue is resolved.Final Update: Turns out my device was defective, they replaced my unit and I haven’t had any issues at all with a tamper error, even during setup which happened last time. Customer service was a jewel and also helped me fix one of my other device issues. I would definitely recommend this product now and kudos to their outstanding customer service! We installed this to monitor our garage overhead door, as seen in the photo (which may be hard to understand). The smaller half of the sensor, on the left, is rotated 1/4 turn so it would fit, and is attached to the door. The part on the right is on the frame. The smaller white contact sensors aren’t rated for cold winter temperatures, so we bought this one. This configuration has been working perfectly so far (for 9 weeks and counting) and it works WAY better than our old alarm system sensor which used an accelerometer and was slow or didn’t recognize when garage opened/closed at all.It has been below -30C (-22F) for days and was down to -38C (-36F) overnight these past few days. About as cold as it can get! I was concerned this sensor may fail because of the temperature rating. This sensor isn’t directly outside but it must be -18C (0F) inside our garage. The sensor has been working A-OK, even when the overhead door is open and the sensor is more exposed to the frigid cold.As a result, I would fully recommend this for cold climates, if used like we are doing (in a garage for an overhead door). If using the sensor strictly outdoors, fully exposed, like in a gate or shed in the winter, I might be more wary. It is technically only rated down to -20C (-4F).For climates that are warmer year-round, I feel this sensor would be a terrific purchase.-----Other notes:- For use on a garage door, make sure all snow is cleared under the door. With just a bit of caked snow under the garage door, the sensor wouldn’t register as closed.- Keep in mind this sensor is larger than the white indoor ones. If you are using in a narrow space you may want to measure carefully first.- We also found the tamper sensor a bit finicky. Once the baseplate behind the large half of the sensor was attached, and we slid the unit back together again, it would still register tampered. We hadn't screwed the baseplate on overly tight, but we had to loosen it until a delicate threshold where the sensor would register as being properly assembled again. It sounds like others have had similar problems with the assembly of this product. As stated this thing is huge when compared to the indoor version. I used it on my garage but due to its physical size had no choice but to install it on the exterior side of the door using double sided tape on the side of the magnet. So far (3 weeks) it has performed flawlessly. Will have to wait for winter to determine cold weather performance but so far it’s easy to recommend this sensor.I was optimistic about buying the 1st gen Outdoor Contact Sensors. Amazon no longer sells 1 individual sensor, your forced to buy a 2-pack. Not a big deal since I needed 2 sensors but I'd prefer to try one first before investing more money into future purchases. Both of my sensors were easy to setup but the tampered switch on the rear on the unit has a design flaw. It relies on a small elevated piece of plastic on the mounting bracket to push the tamper button inward. Since you have to slide the mounting bracket in place this doesn't always go smoothly and the tamper button isn't pushed all the way in. You have to slide the bracket numerous times to get the tamper switch pushed inward and avoid getting the notification. When I am successful it only takes a little amount of pressure such as the gate moving a bit when closed to move the tampered switch off by a millimeter causing an alert. This happens on both devices. Being a heavy Ring user I expected better quality engineering for a new product. I should've waited until a 2nd gen gets released. Still debating if I should return the sensors and try another pair with the same flaw. For the price you pay, the quality is awful. The tamper switch doesn’t depress correctly on these units and results in a lot of nuisance alarms. The hardware itself falls out of the clips easily as well. I expect way better hardware construction for the cost of these things. I ended up having to jam some paper between the switch and mount in order to make the tampers stop. Try harder ring. Much harder.Update - Antonio from ring contacted me and sent me a new sensor. While my assessment on the product remains the same, ring going the extra mile to resolve my issue helped me out. I’d still recommend waiting for a second gen outdoor contact sensor but at least ring is willing to replace any bad sensors they send you. Thanks again Antonio. Rating changed from 2 to 3 stars. My learning curve involving the installation was slow. Not easy for me until I started to use the features on IPhone along with tons of help from Ring techs. If I were installing in a new home I would be inclined to go with wires again.
