Outdoor Research Wintertrek Hat - Warm Fleece Lined Beanie for Men & Women - Perfect for Skiing, Hiking & Cold Weather Activities

i bought this to replace a mountain hardware dome perignon. the dome covered my ears all the way which was good , sometimes. the problem was that the windstopper fleece is apparently also partially soundproof. The outdoor research hat covers about 80% of of my ears, which lets me hear at least twice as good as the dome. All in all I like the hat, the zipper on the back seems unnecessary but my ears haven't gotten cold with this hat on yet and its been fairly cold in Ohio this December. The dome would still be better for riding my bike though.Got it in the mail quickly which was great. The cap feels great on your head and really does wonders in blocking out the wind and the cold. Only complaints I have are the sizes run a bit small. My head size is 7 1/4 so I thought a large for this would be great. Guess again. A large barely comes down to the bottom of my ears and allows wind-flow through my lower head. Also I was very surprised at the amount of noise that this hat muffles. I have to take it off or lift it up to hear people speak because it quiets sound so much.In theory this is a nice hat. It's made of soft warm fleece and has windstopper technology. However, as others have noted, the hat doesn't fit very well. I ordered a large which has a 59 cm circumference for my head which measures 58 cm in circumference. The hat barely covers my earlobes and felt loose so I returned it. I then went to REI and tried on a medium which measures 57 cm in circumference. Although the medium fit tighter in terms of girth, it was too small vertically and didn't cover the bottom half inch of my ears! Instead, I went with a medium Mountain Hardwear Dome Perignon Beanie which is really warm and fits well.Nice hat well made, size ordered (using size chart) fitted head perfectly, but unfortunately the hat does not come down far enough and leaves the bottom of my earlobes uncovered, a bit of failure given the name of the product......bought for winter climbing in low temps. Shame good kit spoiled by a small oversight.I've got really nice hair and a large head so I rarley wear hats. However, I had plans to attend a Chicago Bears game, Winter Classic NCAA hockey at Soldier field in February ( temps in the teens and winds off Lake Michigan ) and ice fishing in the beautiful but fridged dairy state. OK, bad move to purchase a hat w/o trying it on was my first concern but this hat fits perfect, insulates very well without overheating you indoors or milder weather.Love the hat, looks great- wear it all the time. Order two of them!So it gets cold in afghanistan and this hat matches the multicam uniform so I bought it because I like other OR products. I am 6' and 190lbs and the large fits well and covers my ears. It has a little hidden zipper pocket in the back of the hat that I have no idea what it's for. I'm buying one in black for civilian use as well.If you would like to know something specific about this item just ask and I'll try to respond within a day or so.Pretty good hat but kind of expensive. Has a tendency to slide up on my big punkin head. I was hoping the extra large would not do that. Warm though.I want medium，but send me large，anyway，it fit~Really was looking forward to receiving this, Gore Windstopper seems like a great fabric for a hat that will be warm and windproof but not overheat when active. Sadly the sizing is so so small that I had to give it to a family member to have.
