I ordered this lighter on Jan. 8th, received on Jan 13th, was estimated by Amazon as a Jan 14th delivery. (Woo! A day early)I like it right out of the package, it's weighty, Zippo warranty card was there as hoped, and it was already full, which was a nice surprise.Once the lighter acclimated to room temperature, it lit first try. As well as the second, third, fourth, etc.In reading what people complain about in their reviews, for the most part, these are gripes about somebody else's design, with little regard for the fact that there's always a learning curve with any new device. I can ignite this lighter with one finger, and the opposing thumb on the same hand without holding the body of the lighter, no problems. I could see issues with weak or painful fingers, such as what arthritis would cause, but that's a problem with far more lighters than just this one design. This lighter when used and adjusted properly is actually more windproof than the original Zippo. The Bunsen type high efficiency/intensity flame serves to ignite the 'gas' emitted by the second fuel orifice to make a yellow flame. The yellow flame can be blown out, yes, but the Bunsen flame keeps going. One tip is to hold the lighter with it's left side towards the breeze, so the fuel gases coming from the yellow flame orifice will cross the column of heat from the blue torch-like flame. The blue flame won't always be visible, but if you haven't gone and removed the filaments that cross the Bunsen orifice, you can tell if that's lit by the glowing of those filaments. As with all butane lighters that have a high intensity, Bunsen-type burner: JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SEE A FLAME DOES NOT MEAN THAT THERE ISN'T ONE. This type of flame is actually hottest about one eighth to one quarter of an inch away from the bright blue tip, not inside the flame. This lighter is plenty long enough to light a gas or charcoal grill, if it's not long enough, your using too much charcoal fluid or letting the gas run too long before you light the grill.Even though the package says not to use it to light cigarettes, cigars, or pipes, it works fantastically for all three.I will update if the lighter fails.Edit: Approximately one year since I started using this lighter now. The rubber over the thumb button wore out first, but hasn't gotten any worse since the tear appeared. There's slight wear on the safety button, but no tears or holes. Still lights on the first try, also runs on "ISO-butane" the filament across the torch burner has separated in the center, but both ends nearly touch still, and the filament still does it's job. Many people comment about the lighter, as I carry it for daily use, and it's always getting positive attention. This is a great lighter. We burn a lot of wood to heat our home and we cook a lot on the grill. So we've used most of the other lighters. We also live on a river and the kids have lots of beach bonfires. For both applications, this is simply the best lighter. It's safe, it keeps lit in a wind and it's durable. There is a button for the ignitor and there is a button for gas feed. You have to hold both of them down to start it and you only need to keep the gas button down to keep it lit. This is an important safety feature which allows you to carry this in a pocket, a backpack etc... It takes two fingers to start and then only one to keep running. You an do it with one hand but it's easier to start using two. With a little practice, you can do it quickly and one handed. It also keeps kids from playing with it and getting it started - all good in my book. This thing is built like a tank. This is not the $5 lighter you get from the grocery store that you throw out when your done with it. You'll have this one for years. It's a tool not a toy and not junk. We expect to have this one for years and years. A great value for what it costs, for sure. There is a flame control in the handle that adjusts the length of the flame. We typically leave ours on the max since we use it to start fire starter blocks and we just want to get them going as fast as possible. It's not a huge flame even on max. There is a little wire that stretches across the gas opening. When the flame is running, this glows red hot so if the wind blows and tries to blow out the flame, as soon as the gas hits the red hot wire, the flame restarts. Works well for sure - much better than others we've used to start bonfires outside when it's windy. There is a limit to how much wind it can handle but if you protect it a bit, you'll find that it's quite good at keeping the flame lit.Overall, we like this and highly recommend it.First of all it is not childproof. In order to start using this lighter I have tightened a tie strap around the annoyingly-placed button you are forced to hold down in order to press the ignition button. I will at some point cover the button with a severely heavy-duty glue from Por-15 company, this is ridiculous and also still not good to store where children can get it anyway. I appreciate the advice earlier and I will undo the bottom section in order to adjust the knob further as this is why it has no light for some people, mine is adjusted too low as well. And I agree, it had a small quantity of fuel inside. It is difficult for me to add fuel, are you supposed to hear a hiss, or does that mean it isn't filling? I'm going to need a instruction video just for that. Put maybe too much fuel in, but it works well, I am guessing it is a better than average quality. Also a problem in the directions, they read do not use this to light pipes or cigarettes. Why? Is this solely so one doesn't inhale too much flame and burn themselves? I like the ability to use in a pipe, if I need to, but in the majority of lighting pipes I use this to light a Smoker's wick made of hemp, inhaling butane is unhealthy, maybe that's why they say that warning? I like the rubber, but it looks cool without it on as well but produces clicking noise moreso, I'd rather quiet the click down although it isn't overtly loud like a lot of butane lighters.A little bit hard to light when it's on the lower side for fuel but freaking amazing the rest of the time.me llego el producto después de probarlo no volvió a encender a pesar de estar cargado pésimo producto totalmente decepcionado tanto con la marca como con el vendedor+ ou-
